Are you getting ready to move? Avoid the chaos and learn how to pack your belongings like a pro. A few tips and tricks from the pros can get you started.

Wrap Everything Fragile in Layers

Don’t leave fragile items to chance. Wrap everything in multiple layers of either bubble wrap or newspaper. Bubble wrap is usually cleaner and you won’t have to wash everything after you unwrap it. It’s recommended that you roll- wrap every fragile item in two layers before placing it in a cardboard box. Make sure every wrapped item fits neatly into the ones below it to reduce jostling during travel.

Label Every Box for the Room It Should Go In

When you pack a box in the kitchen, label the box “kitchen”. Likewise, do it for all the boxes you pack. It makes it easier to place boxes in each of the new rooms of your new home. If you go the extra mile and label what’s in each box for each room, then you can quickly pull out items you need to use right away and unpack other items as you have time.

Load Boxes on the Truck According to the Rooms

For example, don’t pack boxes on the truck willy-nilly. Instead, put all the boxes for the kitchen together on the truck, all the boxes for the bathroom together on the truck, etc. That way, when you take boxes off the truck you know exactly where they are supposed to go. This is especially helpful if you hire movers and the movers need to know where to place your boxes. You don’t have to stop ever three seconds to respond to the movers asking you where to put this or that unmarked box. Everyone already automatically knows.

Stack Heavier Boxes on the Floor of the Truck

For a more successful move, pack the truck with the heaviest boxes on the floor. These are the base boxes that won’t fall and crush everything else during the move and support the boxes sitting on top of them.

What’s more exciting than starting a new year in college? Moving back home at the end of the year for the summer is! However, if you are attending a Boston, MA, college, you are probably going to need some moving help. If your parents can’t do it, and you aren’t old enough to rent a moving truck, you may have to hire some student movers.

Get Your Stuff Together After Hiring the Movers

Once you hire student movers, get your belongings together in one spot. You can pay the movers extra to help you pack up, or you can buy moving boxes to pack ahead of moving day. If you choose the latter, make sure every box is taped up and labeled with your name, address, and contents. The movers will come to your dorm and help grab boxes to put on the truck for you.

When you let the movers pack, your stuff should all be sitting neatly somewhere in a space in your dorm room. If there are rules to having movers in the college in Boston, Massachusetts, clarify those rules to make the move go smoother on check-out day.

You Can’t Ride With the Movers

When you hire a moving company that sends movers to help, you have to get your own ride home. The good news is that you can fly, take a bus, take a train, or whatever else will get you home. The movers will meet you there regardless of which mode of transportation you choose for yourself.

If You Beat the Movers Home…

It’s possible to get to your home elsewhere faster than the movers can drive, particularly if you live in a different city and state than your Boston college. If you arrive home before the movers get there, you can prepare a space for them to place your boxes and maybe help them get everything off the truck.
