Packing Perfection: Tips and Tricks for a Successful Move

Are you getting ready to move? Avoid the chaos and learn how to pack your belongings like a pro. A few tips and tricks from the pros can get you started.

Wrap Everything Fragile in Layers

Don’t leave fragile items to chance. Wrap everything in multiple layers of either bubble wrap or newspaper. Bubble wrap is usually cleaner and you won’t have to wash everything after you unwrap it. It’s recommended that you roll- wrap every fragile item in two layers before placing it in a cardboard box. Make sure every wrapped item fits neatly into the ones below it to reduce jostling during travel.

Label Every Box for the Room It Should Go In

When you pack a box in the kitchen, label the box “kitchen”. Likewise, do it for all the boxes you pack. It makes it easier to place boxes in each of the new rooms of your new home. If you go the extra mile and label what’s in each box for each room, then you can quickly pull out items you need to use right away and unpack other items as you have time.

Load Boxes on the Truck According to the Rooms

For example, don’t pack boxes on the truck willy-nilly. Instead, put all the boxes for the kitchen together on the truck, all the boxes for the bathroom together on the truck, etc. That way, when you take boxes off the truck you know exactly where they are supposed to go. This is especially helpful if you hire movers and the movers need to know where to place your boxes. You don’t have to stop ever three seconds to respond to the movers asking you where to put this or that unmarked box. Everyone already automatically knows.

Stack Heavier Boxes on the Floor of the Truck

For a more successful move, pack the truck with the heaviest boxes on the floor. These are the base boxes that won’t fall and crush everything else during the move and support the boxes sitting on top of them.
