Spotlight on Arlington, MA

Just under 10 miles from Boston is the charming suburb of Arlington, MA. Escape the bustling city life to enjoy riding along countless bike paths, rich history, family-friendly fun, and a thriving arts and cultural district. If you’re considering a move to Arlington, consider this your unofficial community guide.

History

Settled in 1635 under the name Menotomy, the town of Arlington didn’t get its current name until 1867 to honor one of the country’s oldest national cemeteries, Arlington National Cemetery. Residents and visitors can travel along the path British soldiers likely would’ve taken during the American Revolution on the Battle Road Byway or follow in the footsteps of Paul Revere on Massachusetts Avenue. From the Jason Russell House to Old Schwamb Mill to the Robbins Library, museums and memorials abound in Arlington.

The Great Outdoors

Arlington is just one stop along Minuteman Bikeway, which also passes through the towns of Bedford, Lexington, and Cambridge. Get out on your bike, enjoy a quiet stroll, or get your heart pumping with a run along the Bikeway and continue on to the connecting Alewife Brook Greenway. Families and outdoor enthusiasts are sure to love the variety of recreational activities available at Arlington’s many parks, including Robbins Farm Park, Magnolia Park, Menotomy Rocks Park, Spy Pond, and Reservoir Beach.
