Spotlight on Weston, MA

Weston, Massachusetts isn’t exactly a major destination for would-be vacationers. However, there are things you can see and do there, and it does make for a nice stopover and reprieve from the more-hyped destinations.

Skiing

In season, visitors can ski downhill or use the cross-country trails. It’s very popular with the locals too. Weston Ski Track charges per person, per day, but you will have to bring your own skis.

Norumbega Tower

Just off the beaten path in Weston (a.k.a., the highway), Norumbega Tower reaches above the treetops and overlooks a path down to a beach. Built to pay homage to a long past Viking village nearby, the tower is both fascination and oddity in the middle of nowhere.

Spellman Stamp Museum

An in-depth look at how stamps began in this country and how they have progressed in design and use is here. The history is of special importance to philatelists and history buffs alike. Kids have their own area where they can learn about the history of stamps and use materials to create a stamp design. Since Ben Franklin was the first Postmaster General and served in Boston, it just makes sense for Weston to have a stamp museum fifteen miles from where the former famous mail man worked.

Dozens of Historical Sites to Tour

Weston is very close to Boston. It has many historical sites as they relate to the Revolutionary War, including Golden Ball Tavern, where the British held one of their headquarters. For anyone that is fascinated by the untold histories of the American Revolutionary War, there’s a lot to learn on a tour of these historical places.

Community Theater

Looking for live entertainment with skilled actors? The local performing arts theater puts on many shows every year. You can catch a play almost any time. Check out the Friendly Society of the Performing Arts and their website to see what’s on tap when you visit.
