Braintree is the birthplace of General Sylvanus Thayer, who is known as the “Father of West Point.” It also has houses that date back to the colonial period. Braintree was first settled in 1625, and it is the birthplace of two United States’ presidents: John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams. There is also the Hancock cemetery which contains the graves of early settlers and the General Thayer library, which was built in 1895.
Braintree may feel like a small, suburban community, but it offers a large indoor mall. There are over 200 retailers, lots of entertainment, and a food court. It is currently the largest shopping mall in New England.
